Shoot to Thrill Photography

Well it’s been a while (like 6 months) since I shot my last show.  But this year I promice to make more of an effort to attend AND shoot shows as I really miss it!

So the show I just shot last Thursday was the Element Boys of Summer Tour featuring Against from Brisbane, the AMAZING Verse from the US, Comeback Kid also from the US and Melbs own Carpathian.

Against were awesome as usual, they don’t play here in Melbourne enough, so it was good to see them again.  Verse were sooooo good!  I think I have literally listened to Agression 1000 times since I bought it, so I was really excited to be able to see them live.  The only downer was they seemed to play a very short set, I hope they come back for their own tour very, very soon.  Comeback Kid were pretty good as well, second time here with their new singer who I don’t enjoy as much as the previous one, but the older songs still come off pretty well live.  Carpathian I haven’t seen play for a while, and they were quite surprising this time.  I must admit I am really enjoying the new cd, so I was also looking forward to seeing them play.See below for some of the photos from the tour.  Thanks heaps to Nigel fromDestroy All Lines forallowing me to take pics.

I had the chance to shoot this show for FasterLouder.com.au. The Forum is such an ace venue! The archway above the stage is amazing, and such a different setting to what I am used to shooting at.

Crime In Stereo

I was a massive Smashing Pumpkins fan when I was in high school, I loved Billy Corgan! Since then I hadn’t really listened to them much but jumped at the chance to shoot them for old time’s sake. Standing in front of Billy was such a surreal experience! To think I used to idolise him 10 years ago! It was a great 3 songs…and they played Tonight Tonight as I was leaving the phot pit…best!

Amazing show, better than last time in my opinion. Madball were sooo good and Death Before Dishonor were awesome too. This time I got to stay and shoot through the entire show, which was even better!!!!!!!! Some shots below from each band, and I’ll upload the full gallery eventaully.

This week there was a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young people. One was the lead singer for a band I had the privledge of photographing on a number of occasions for almost 3 years, the other was a close friend of this band. I did not know the band personally, having never met them in real life and only having spoken with a couple of the band members via the internet whilst passing on photos I had taken of them. All I can say is that to me they were amazingly talented, decent, hardworking guys who lived for what they did, and the band as a whole was one of the most passionate and humble group of guys you could ever whitness live.

Please, to anyone who knew the band, saw the band play once or a dozen times, or never saw the band but was touched and saddened by the tragic news, please donate any amount of money large or small so you can to help them and their families out.
